“A 9-tier limestone waterfall featuring a challenging nature trail and a stunning panoramic summit view overlooking the vast Vajiralongkorn Reservoir.”

Krateng Jeng Waterfall is one of the famous waterfalls for nature walks in Khao Laem National Park, Kanchanaburi Province. Located behind the park headquarters in a highly pristine rainforest, the waterfall is a limestone waterfall formed by the Krateng Jeng stream, which flows down from the high mountains of the western forest. The water cascades down several levels of rock and cliffs before emptying into the Vajiralongkorn Dam reservoir. Most tourists prefer to hike along the nature trail from the park headquarters. The distance from the starting point to the first tier of the waterfall is approximately 1.5–2 kilometers, and continuing to the top tier, the round trip distance can exceed 4 kilometers, depending on the chosen route and viewpoint.

The main charm of Krateng Jeng Waterfall lies not only in the waterfall itself but also in the atmosphere of the rainforest along the trail. The trail passes through bamboo forests, large ferns, rattan forests, wild lychee trees, wild rambutan trees, and massive trees decades old, some so large that it takes several people to encircle them. The surrounding area is also home to a variety of wildlife, including wild birds, reptiles, and native aquatic animals from the stream. This trail has become popular among hikers and those who appreciate traditional nature. The sound of the waterfall cascading over the rocks echoes throughout the valley, creating a peaceful and refreshing atmosphere, distinct from typical tourist attractions in Kanchanaburi province.

Information regarding the number of tiers of the waterfall varies depending on the tourist source. Some sources state more than 30 tiers, while currently, most tourists prefer and mention the "9 main tiers," which are easier to access and have a more distinctive beauty. Each tier has a different character, ranging from shallow pools for resting to tall waterfalls requiring climbing over rocks and streams. Climbing to the top requires caution, as some sections are steep and slippery, especially during the rainy season when the water flow is very strong. However, once at the top, tourists are rewarded with a natural viewpoint offering a panoramic view of the surrounding mountain ranges and the Vajiralongkorn Dam reservoir – considered one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Khao Laem National Park.

The waterfall has water flowing almost year-round, but the best time to visit is from the end of the rainy season to the beginning of the cool season, between September and January, when the forest is lush and the water volume is at its best. If traveling during the rainy season, it is advisable to check the weather forecast and park announcements in advance, as the trail may be slippery or there may be flash floods. Tourists planning to hike up multiple levels should wear sturdy hiking boots and inform park officials before entering the area, as some sections of the trail are in dense rainforest and it's easy to get lost. Additionally, during the rainy season, many leeches are found along the route.

Although Kratengjeng Waterfall doesn't have the amenities of larger tourist attractions, it possesses a unique charm in its natural beauty and tranquility. Tourists visiting Khao Laem National Park often combine this waterfall with a visit to Pom Pi viewpoint, the Vajiralongkorn Dam, and other scenic routes in Sangkhlaburi district. The beauty of the headwater forest and the nature trails make Kratengjeng Waterfall a popular destination for hikers, nature photographers, and those seeking to experience the pristine western forest of Thailand.
