“Enjoy expansive savanna-like grasslands that change colors by season, camp in a true digital-detox environment, and spot wildlife and rare birds in a rich natural ecosystem.”

Thung Kik and Thung Na Ngu lie about 14 kilometers east of Mae Ping National Park headquarters. These vast natural grasslands stretch across gentle hills, surrounded by dry dipterocarp and mixed deciduous forests, earning the nickname “Thailand’s Savanna.”

Seasonal Landscape Beauty:

The plains are covered with spear grass and cogon grass. The most scenic period is late rainy to early cool season (Oct–Nov) when the fields turn green mixed with gold. In winter, the landscape becomes fully golden, while during the dry season, wildflowers bloom across the plains, creating a stunning natural panorama.

Wildlife & Birdwatching Paradise:

The area serves as a feeding ground for wildlife such as barking deer, wild boars, hares, junglefowl, and deer, often seen at dawn and dusk. It is also a prime birdwatching site, home to multiple woodpecker species and other rare forest birds — indicators of a highly healthy ecosystem.

Camping Under Dark Skies:

Thung Kik campground is famous for its silence and complete darkness, far from city lights. It is considered one of the best stargazing and Milky Way viewing spots in Northern Thailand, ideal for campers and night-sky photographers.

Thung Na Ngu — The Quiet Nature Zone:

This adjacent grassland area offers even greater tranquility, making it perfect for nature study, wildlife observation, and ecosystem learning.
