“Seven-tier waterfall in Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park. Enjoy serene jungle hiking, lush greenery, and clear pools filled with fish in a beautiful natural setting.”
Khlong Pla Kang Waterfall is a natural tourist attraction within Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park in Rayong Province. It's situated amidst the lush rainforest of the Khao Chamao mountain range, a forest chain connecting to the eastern forests of Thailand. The area boasts relatively pristine natural beauty, with large trees, ferns, mosses, and dense undergrowth along the banks. This results in cool, humid air year-round, especially during the rainy season and late rainy season/early dry season when the water flows strongly and the forest is particularly verdant. This waterfall is ideal for those seeking a peaceful, less crowded natural experience compared to Rayong's main tourist destinations.
Khlong Pla Kang Waterfall features cascading waterfalls over natural rock formations, with numerous clear pools along the way. Some areas are suitable for swimming during periods of low water flow. The nature trail follows the stream through a shady forest, with the sounds of flowing water and forest birds throughout. The trail includes dirt paths, rocky terrain, and wooden bridges in some sections. It's suitable for both leisurely hikes and nature exploration. Along the way, you may spot large numbers of mahseer in the clear pools. This is one of the unique features of the headwater forest area in Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park.
The area around the waterfall also boasts a remarkable eastern rainforest ecosystem, which is home to many wildlife species such as wild birds, winged insects, butterflies, and small animals. During the rainy season, moss and ferns cover the rocks and streams, creating an atmosphere similar to a tropical rainforest. Nature photographers often come to capture images of the flowing water, sunlight filtering through the treetops, and water spray dispersing over the rocks, especially in the early morning after a fresh rain, when the air is fresh and a light mist covers the forest.
Although Khlong Plak Kang Waterfall is not as famous as the main Khao Chamao Waterfall, it is popular among nature lovers and those who appreciate tranquility because it is not crowded, allowing visitors to fully enjoy walking, relaxing, or studying nature. Many tourists prefer to combine their visit with trips within Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park, whether it's exploring the nature trails, viewpoints, or camping areas within the park. This allows for day trips or overnight stays to fully immerse themselves in nature.
From an ecotourism perspective, the Khlong Plak Kang Waterfall area is an important part of the headwater forest system, crucial to the ecosystem of Rayong province and surrounding areas. Therefore, tourists should help maintain the cleanliness of the area. Do not litter in the stream and avoid making loud noises that disturb nature. A visit here is not only about relaxing in nature, but also an opportunity to learn about the importance of the forests and natural resources of the eastern region, which remain pristine today.
