“Snorkel at one of the most abundant shallow-water coral reefs in the Trat sea right from the shore, and relax on a private-feeling island without modern noise or distractions.”

Koh Wai is a medium-sized island located south of Koh Chang, near Lao Ya Island. The island features a long, slender shape surrounded by several stunning beaches. Its most distinctive quality is the profound tranquility; the island has no roads, no 24-hour public electricity in most areas, and no nightlife venues. This allows Koh Wai to maintain the authentic atmosphere of a classic island getaway. The surrounding waters are a clear emerald green, allowing visitors to see the white sand and underwater rocks clearly from the boat, making it a perfect sanctuary for those seeking to unplug from the outside world.

The essence that sets Koh Wai apart is its thriving beachfront coral reefs, considered among the best snorkeling spots in the Mu Ko Chang archipelago. Visitors can simply put on a mask and swim just a few meters from the shore to encounter a breathtaking underwater world filled with staghorn corals, brain corals, and diverse fish species such as parrotfish, unicornfish, and clownfish living among sea anemones. This richness is the result of sustainable tourism management and limited activities that might disturb nature, keeping the corals vibrant and healthy.

Geographically, Koh Wai has two main coastal sides: North and South. The North Side is where most tourist boats dock and where most accommodations are located. It features fine white sand beaches interspersed with classic rock formations. The island's paths are small footpaths connecting various resorts through lush coconut groves and tropical rainforests. Along these paths, visitors can observe the biodiversity of flora and small fauna, such as the numerous hermit crabs found along the shores, reflecting the cleanliness and safety of the environment.

The atmosphere on Koh Wai feels as if time has stood still. The primary activity here is not sightseeing from place to place but rather lounging in a hammock with a book, kayaking around the bay, or watching a stunning sunset without large buildings obstructing the view. At night, with the sky completely dark, Koh Wai becomes an excellent stargazing spot due to the lack of light pollution, creating an impressive experience for astronomy enthusiasts and romantic seekers alike.

For photographers and artists, Koh Wai is a natural studio providing perfect lighting and scenery, especially the iconic wooden bridges and unique rock formations. For writers or those needing focus, the island's silence fosters creativity. For families, it serves as an excellent outdoor classroom for children to learn about marine and coastal ecosystems.

Experience the purity of unadulterated nature at Koh Wai—a place that will transform an ordinary holiday into a valuable life-recharging experience amidst clear waves and calm sea breezes.

Travel Tips
  • Best Visiting Season: Recommended from November to April, when the sea is calmest, the water is clearest, and there is minimal rain—perfect for snorkeling.

  • Footwear and Equipment: Bring water shoes as some areas have sharp rocks and coral fragments. It is also advised to bring a power bank since electricity on the island is limited.

  • Snorkeling Etiquette: Strictly follow national park regulations: do not step on the coral and do not feed the fish, in order to maintain the natural ecological balance.

  • Food and Local Culture: On-site restaurants at the accommodations serve fresh seafood. It is highly recommended to bring enough cash, as there are no ATMs on the island.

  • Planning: For day trips, please carefully check the return boat schedule. However, staying at least one night is recommended to truly experience the island's authentic atmosphere.
