“View the grand foundations of a large octagonal seaside building, which was the origin of the world's largest golden teak palace.”

Manthat Rattanarot Throne Hall was the most important throne hall within the Phra Chudhadhuj Ratchathan palace complex. Built under the royal command of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), it was originally a magnificent three-story octagonal golden teak building. It was situated by the sea to fully benefit from the natural sea breeze. The name of the throne hall carries an auspicious meaning, symbolizing prosperity like a precious gemstone. However, today visitors see only the stone and cement foundations, which remain in excellent condition and demonstrate the grand scale of the past structure. This is because the wooden building was dismantled and reconstructed as the "Vimanmek Mansion" at Dusit Palace in Bangkok.

The standout feature of this site is the octagonal floor plan, which is complex and beautiful, reflecting the Western architectural influence prevalent at that time. At the foundation site, information boards and reconstructed images are displayed to help visitors imagine the exquisite detail of the original building. The surrounding area is decorated with trees and stone walkways that connect to the beach, offering a panoramic view of the Koh Sichang sea. It also reflects the advanced architectural vision of the 19th century.

The atmosphere around the throne hall is peaceful and sacred. Being an open area on the coast, visitors can feel the sea mist and hear the waves crashing against the shore. This area is perfect for deep exploration to study history and ancient construction. During the day, sunlight hits the stone base, creating beautiful shadows, while in the evening, the atmosphere becomes a quiet space suitable for remembering the island's glorious past.

For historians and those interested in architecture, standing on this ground is a valuable experience because it is the starting point of one of Thailand's most important wooden structures. Additionally, it is a unique photography spot with the lines of the foundation contrasting against the horizon and blue sea. Visitors can walk around the building to see details of the foundation stone laying and room layouts, which help clarify how the royal family lived in the past.

We invite you to touch the spirit of the past at this throne hall foundation. Even though the building is no longer there, its greatness and memory are firmly etched into every stone along the Koh Sichang shore.
