“A beautiful white wooden bridge stretching into the sea. It was built in the late 19th century and is the best place for photography on the island.”
Asdang Bridge is a unique and very important wooden bridge on Koh Sichang. It is located in the area of Phra Chudadhuj Palace, which was the only summer palace in Thailand built on an island. The bridge is made of teak wood and painted in clean white. King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) ordered its construction to celebrate the recovery of his son, Prince Asdang Dejavudh, from an illness after staying on this island.
The most famous feature is the classic wooden pavilions on the bridge. These pavilions are used for resting and enjoying the sea breeze. The bridge starts from the shady coast and stretches into the deep blue ocean. In the past, this area was the main pier for royal ships and large trade ships from foreign countries. This bridge was like a front door that welcomed international guests to Thailand and showed the progress of the country during that era.
The area around the bridge is filled with ancient Frangipani trees. These trees were planted during the reign of King Rama V. They have beautiful branches and white flowers with a sweet smell. From February to April, the white flowers fall onto the wooden bridge, creating a very peaceful and beautiful view. Many tourists like to sit in the pavilions at the end of the bridge to listen to the waves and watch small fish in the water.
For photography, Asdang Bridge is a paradise for travelers. There are many beautiful angles to take photos at any time of day. You can take a wide photo of the bridge against the horizon or use the white wooden pillars as a frame for portraits. Because it is very quiet, many artists and poets also come here. They use the calm bridge and the moving sea as inspiration for their artworks.
Visiting Asdang Bridge is like touching a living cultural heritage. This place is very well-preserved to keep its original beauty for the next generation. The simple but powerful white wood in nature will make you feel peaceful and happy. It is a great experience on Koh Sichang that you will remember for a long time.
