“Lush botanical forest featuring rare herbal gardens and three scenic cascading limestone waterfalls—Sam Sawan, Sai Thong, and Tad Faperfect for peaceful nature camping.”

Sub Chomphu Arboretum is located within the national forest reserve in Ban Phot Subdistrict, Nong Phai District, Phetchabun Province, under the care of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation. Its primary objective is to conserve local plant species and promote learning about natural resources in the upper central region of Thailand. The arboretum features a mixed deciduous and dry dipterocarp forest interspersed with wetlands and natural streams, maintaining a rich ecosystem. It is home to medicinal plants, large trees, and various small animals. Visitors will experience cool, shady, and tranquil surroundings, a stark contrast to typical commercialized tourist destinations, making it ideal for those seeking genuine relaxation in nature.

A key highlight of Sub Chomphu Arboretum is its well-maintained nature trail, easily accessible for families, students, and anyone interested in studying plant life. Along the trail, you'll find a variety of local trees such as teak, rosewood, and Lagerstroemia, as well as native medicinal plants found in Phetchabun's forests. Informative signs detailing plant species, ecosystems, and conservation information enhance the learning experience and promote ecotourism. The trail is shaded by large trees, making it comfortable to walk even during the day.

Another popular highlight is the group of natural waterfalls within the arboretum, consisting of Hin Ngam Waterfall, Sai Ngam Waterfall, and Than Ngam Waterfall. These are small waterfalls formed by natural streams flowing through rock formations and forests. The water is clear and flows year-round. Even during the dry season, when the water volume decreases slightly, it remains shady and ideal for relaxation. The areas around the waterfalls are full of lush greenery and natural rock formations, making them popular spots for tourists to rest, eat, and take photos, especially during the rainy season from approximately June to October, when nature is at its most abundant, the waterfalls have a large volume of water, and the atmosphere is particularly refreshing.

The arboretum also offers areas for outdoor recreation and camping for tourists who want to experience nature up close. The atmosphere in the mornings and evenings is peaceful, the air is cool, and you can hear birdsong and the sound of flowing water from the natural streams. Basic facilities such as restrooms, parking, and a small convenience store are available, making it suitable for nature-loving tourists who want a simple, relaxing vacation without the hustle and bustle or large entertainment venues. Furthermore, the area is frequently used as an environmental learning center by schools and various organizations in Phetchabun province.

Due to its highly pristine natural environment, Sub Chomphu Arboretum is ideal for those who enjoy ecotourism, short hikes, plant studies, and peaceful relaxation in a tranquil forest setting. Many tourists prefer to visit during the rainy and winter seasons because of the cool weather and the exceptionally lush greenery. Although not a large tourist attraction with striking buildings, the charm of this arboretum lies in its simplicity, the abundance of nature, and the atmosphere that truly allows visitors to relax both body and mind.
