“Meadows, Kang Dong or Cowboys. Relax with a wide meadow. And see wildlife in the wild.”

Kong Wang Grassland, locally known as “Thung Kong Wua,” is a vast natural grassland hidden among the mountain ranges of Nam Nao. The area features rolling green hills stretching across the landscape, creating scenery often compared to the countryside of New Zealand, earning it recognition as one of Thailand’s most beautiful natural viewpoints.Originally, the grassland served as a communal grazing area for local villagers in Khok Mon Subdistrict, where cattle and buffalo were released to feed naturally during the day. This traditional lifestyle gave rise to the name “Thung Kong Wua,” reflecting the deep agricultural roots of the community. Despite growing popularity among travelers, the area still preserves its peaceful rural atmosphere and untouched charm.

One of the most distinctive features of Kong Wang Grassland is its naturally layered terrain. From higher viewpoints, visitors can see waves of grassy hills blending beautifully with mountain shadows. During the rainy season, from June to October, the fields turn vibrant green, while soft morning mist often drifts across the landscape, creating a dreamy and romantic atmosphere. From late rainy season into winter, around November to January, the grass gradually changes into golden-yellow shades that glow warmly under the evening sunlight. Because of this seasonal transformation, many visitors return at different times of the year to experience the changing scenery.

Another charm of the grassland is its openness and tranquility. With no large buildings or modern developments blocking the view, visitors can fully immerse themselves in nature — listening to the wind brushing through the grass, smelling the fresh earth after rain, and watching herds of cattle grazing freely across the hills. The surrounding area also offers panoramic mountain views and, on some mornings, a sea of mist covering the distant ridges. The cool climate of Nam Nao makes the destination comfortable to visit almost year-round.Today, Kong Wang Grassland has become increasingly popular among photographers, campers, and travelers seeking hidden natural attractions. Many visitors come for landscape photography, pre-wedding shoots, fashion shoots, and outdoor travel content, especially during the golden hour before sunset when the sunlight beautifully highlights the rolling hills.Although facilities remain limited compared to major tourist attractions, this simplicity is exactly what makes the place special. Visitors can still experience nature in its raw and authentic form, making it an ideal destination for those looking to escape the city and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of rural Phetchabun.
