“A small sandstone waterfall in Nam Nao forest, featuring clear water, shady evergreen trees, close highway access, easy hiking, and a peaceful relaxing atmosphere.”
Sam Phak Khao Waterfall is a small natural waterfall located within Nam Nao National Park, in the forest area bordering Phetchabun and Chaiyaphum provinces. The waterfall is formed by the stream of Huai Sanam Sai, which flows through a highly pristine, evergreen forest. Its distinctive feature is the water cascading down natural sandstone cliffs from a height_ of approximately 3 meters. Although not a large waterfall, it possesses a unique charm due to its tranquil atmosphere, surrounded by large trees, vines, and diverse vegetation. This creates a humid and cool environment throughout the year. Tourists can experience the natural beauty of the Nam Nao forest up close, enjoying the sounds of flowing water and birdsong, a relaxing contrast to crowded tourist spots.
The area surrounding Sam Phak Khao Waterfall remains a thriving evergreen forest, a vital ecosystem for Nam Nao National Park. This forest is the headwaters of several streams and is home to various wild animals such as birds, squirrels, gaur, and some reptiles. The abundance of nature makes the air around the waterfall cooler than the surrounding areas. Especially during the rainy and winter seasons, a thin layer of mist often blankets the forest in the mornings, adding to the beauty of the nature trails. Many tourists enjoy visiting for walks, relaxation, and photography of the natural surroundings. Listen to the sound of flowing water amidst the tranquility of the forest, giving you the feeling of truly escaping the outside world and entering nature.
The access to Sam Phak Khaw Waterfall is relatively easy compared to many other natural attractions in Nam Nao National Park. Tourists can park their cars along Highway 12 and walk approximately 400 meters along a nature trail. The trail passes through open forest and some wetlands, with ample tree cover, making it ideal for those who want to experience nature without long hikes. Along the way, you can find ferns, mosses, and wild plants growing on rocks and along the stream. Especially after rainfall, the area around the waterfall is lush green, and the water flows beautifully.
Although Sam Phak Khaw Waterfall is not large, it is considered one of the natural resting spots that clearly reflects the unique character of Nam Nao National Park. Because it is an area that has not been heavily developed commercially, it retains its tranquility and pristine condition. Most tourists who visit here are nature lovers, photographers, and those seeking relaxation in a truly forest and mountain atmosphere. In addition, nearby natural attractions within the park include Haew Sai Waterfall, Sai Thong Waterfall, Phu Kho viewpoint, and birdwatching trails, allowing for a full day of nature-based sightseeing in the same area.
The best time to visit is during the late rainy season to early winter, approximately October to December.
