“Explore the beauty of stalactites and stalagmites inside the cave that sparkle like gold, and pay respects to the ancient reclining Buddha image for peace and prosperity.”
Wat Tham Thong Phannara is a charming temple that perfectly blends Buddhist art with the wonders of nature. Its most outstanding feature is Tham Thong Phannara, a large cave with good air circulation. Inside the cave, visitors can admire beautiful stalactites and stalagmites that shimmer like golden flakes when illuminated by light. The cave enshrines several ancient Buddha images, with a large reclining Buddha image as the principal statue, which is deeply revered by local people. It is believed to possess sacred powers of protection and bestowing good fortune.
In the past, this cave served as a residence for revered monks and meditation practitioners due to its peaceful and serene atmosphere. Every year on the full moon day of the fourth lunar month (around March), the Cave Climbing Festival is held, which is the largest annual event in the district. Buddhists from many places gather to bathe the Buddha images and perform candlelight processions in a sacred and beautiful setting.
The area surrounding the temple is shaded by large trees, with majestic limestone mountains forming an impressive backdrop. Wild monkeys can occasionally be seen, reflecting the richness of the natural environment. Nearby caves such as Tham Khwang and Tham Makham also offer additional opportunities for visitors to explore natural beauty. Wat Tham Thong Phannara is therefore not only a place for making merit and worship but also a destination to marvel at the exquisitely crafted beauty of nature.
