“Panoramic view of the Tinsulanonda Bridge and Songkhla Lake. Beautiful architecture with well-maintained gardens, reflecting the faith and unity of the people of Songkhla.”
Baan Sattha is a site of both historical and symbolic importance in Songkhla Province. It was built in 1996 through the cooperation of local residents, government agencies, and various sectors in the province, with the intention of serving as a guest residence for General Prem Tinsulanonda during his official visits to the southern region, particularly Songkhla, where he played an important role in regional development and national stability during a significant era.
The building is located on a hill near the entrance of the Tinsulanonda Bridge, giving it a distinctive landscape advantage. It overlooks both the Tinsulanonda Bridge stretching across Songkhla Lake and a wide panoramic view of the lake itself. As a result, the area was designed not merely as a residence, but as a symbolic viewpoint reflecting the relationship between leadership and the local community.
The architecture of Baan Sattha is simple yet elegant, emphasizing openness and harmony with nature, allowing natural breezes from the lake to flow through. The surrounding area includes landscaped gardens, open lawns, and pavilions designed to blend seamlessly with the natural environment without obstructing the scenic view. In the late afternoon, sunlight reflecting on the water creates a particularly striking golden glow.
Later, General Prem returned the house to the public for public use. It has since been developed into a cultural and historical learning site. Today, it is maintained by the Songkhla Provincial Administrative Organization, with ongoing upkeep, and is open to visitors free of charge.
In terms of tourism, Baan Sattha serves as an important stop along the Songkhla Lake route. Visitors often come to enjoy the view, photograph the Tinsulanonda Bridge, and learn about key figures in Thai history. The site is therefore not only a viewpoint, but also a place that reflects faith, cooperation, and the shared memory of the people of Songkhla.
