Ban Benj Ancient Sanctuary, located in Thung Si Udom District, Ubon Ratchathani, is a historically and culturally significant site. It is a Hindu temple complex consisting of three brick sanctuaries built on a single laterite base, aligned north-south, with the main structures facing east. The complex is surrounded by a rectangular laterite wall, featuring a single entrance gopura on the eastern side. Outside the eastern wall is a cruciform base, and a moat encircles the complex.

The site is constructed in the Khmer architectural style, with archaeological finds including lintels depicting Indra riding Airavata and bas-reliefs of the nine planetary deities, dated to approximately the early 16th Buddhist century. The stucco and wooden carvings display traditional motifs such as Thepanom (guardian angels), nagas, and floral patterns, reflecting the skill of ancient craftsmen and the religious and cultural beliefs of the time.

Inside the sanctuary, halls were used for religious ceremonies, worship of deities, and community gatherings.

The surrounding area includes gardens, open courtyards, and walkways, allowing visitors to explore the site comfortably. Ban Benj Ancient Sanctuary also hosts annual local festivals such as the Bun Duean Hok Festival, Rocket Festival, and traditional folk dances, offering tourists a chance to experience local culture up close.

Ban Benj Ancient Sanctuary is a valuable learning site for students, tourists, and researchers interested in ancient architecture, wood carving, stucco decoration, and the preservation of Thai-Lao culture.
