“A serene limestone waterfall with multiple gentle streams flowing through a shady forest, crystal-clear water throughout the year, and a calm atmosphere ideal for slow-life travelers and riverside picnics.”

Nang Khruan Waterfall originally known by the local highlanders as Phoe Pha Waterfall is a natural treasure hidden near the heart of Phop Phra District, Tak Province. The waterfall’s history and its names reflect the traditional heritage of the local people. Now under the care of Pha Charoen Waterfall National Park, the surrounding environment remains a pristine tropical rainforest, fostering a diverse ecosystem and serving as a sanctuary for numerous bird species.

Physical characteristics:

  • The waterfall is fed by the Mae Lamao Stream, which cascades over a limestone cliff. While the cliff is not exceptionally high, it features a marvelous natural sculpture where the water does not flow in a single stream. Instead, it branches out into multiple channels, varying from small trickles to broad curtains, spreading across the cliff face and cascading down low limestone tiers with graceful regularity. The unique appeal of this limestone waterfall is its crystal-clear, soft-hued water. It is also safer than shale-based waterfalls because the natural, porous texture of the limestone makes it significantly less slippery, allowing visitors to explore the tiers at a close distance with confidence.

Natural atmosphere:

  • The surroundings of Nang Khruan Waterfall are embraced by gigantic trees and lush green ground cover that blankets the rocks. The mist drifting from the falls keeps the air moist and maintains a cool, pleasant temperature year-round. Even during the peak of summer, the air within this forest stays fresh, making it an ideal retreat for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle and recharge amidst the serenity of nature.

Recommended activities:

  • The relatively flat and spacious area makes this a premier spot for riverside picnics with family and friends. Visitors often bring food to enjoy while listening to the resonant yet soothing sound of the falls. Additionally, there are short walking trails around the waterfall for photographers to find the perfect angle where sunlight hits the water curtains, creating a shimmering display. A visit to Nang Khruan Waterfall is more than just sightseeing; it is an immersion into the undisturbed peace and simplicity of nature a perfect destination to complete your journey through Phop Phra District.
