“Observe adorable sea turtles of various species—from hatchlings to mature adults—in well-maintained nursery ponds, and learn about their life cycle and the environmental challenges they face today.”

Sea Turtle Conservation Center, Phang Nga Naval Base (Royal Thai Navy Region 3) plays a vital role in protecting and restoring sea turtle populations in Thailand, particularly along the Andaman coastline. This region is an important nesting ground for species such as green turtles, hawksbill turtles, and olive ridley turtles. The center serves as a “first home” for hatchlings, helping them survive the most vulnerable stage of their lives before being released back into the ocean.

Inside the center, large nursery ponds are carefully organized according to the turtles’ age and species. Visitors can observe tiny hatchlings just weeks old, juvenile turtles preparing for release, and injured turtles undergoing rehabilitation. Seeing these animals up close offers a meaningful and educational experience, especially for younger visitors, fostering awareness about marine conservation and the importance of protecting coastal environments.

Beyond breeding and rehabilitation, the center actively collaborates with local communities to monitor nesting sites and protect eggs laid on nearby beaches. It also promotes awareness about marine pollution, particularly the harmful impact of plastic waste on sea turtles.

The center itself is clean, peaceful, and well-organized, reflecting its management by the military. Located near the scenic beaches of Lam Kaen, it offers not only an educational visit but also a chance to support a meaningful mission—preserving marine life for future generations.

How to Get There
  • By Car: From Phang Nga town or Khao Lak, take Highway No. 4 (Phetkasem Road) toward Lam Kaen, Thai Mueang District. Turn left into the Phang Nga Naval Base (clear signage to the center is provided). Visitors must present an ID card or driver’s license at the entrance checkpoint.
  • By Public Transport: Take a bus or minivan on the Phuket–Takua Pa route and get off at the entrance to the naval base. From there, hire a local taxi or motorbike taxi to reach the center.
