Koh Phai, widely known as Bamboo Island, lies approximately 5 kilometers northeast of Koh Phi Phi Don. In contrast to the dramatic limestone cliffs and rugged formations that define much of the Phi Phi archipelago, Koh Phai is notably flat, with a low-lying landscape and a roughly oval shape. The island falls under the protection of Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park, where strict conservation measures help preserve its pristine natural environment. There are no hotels, resorts, or permanent accommodations on the island, allowing it to retain a peaceful, unspoiled atmosphere ideal for day trips.

The island’s name "Koh Phai" that once grew abundantly here, although today the interior is primarily shaded by Casuarina trees and other tropical vegetation. These trees provide welcome shelter along the shoreline, making the island equally appealing for relaxation as it is for swimming. A continuous stretch of powdery white sand encircles much of the island, forming gently curving beaches that meet crystal-clear waters. The sea displays a beautiful gradient—from pale turquoise near the shore to deeper blue further out—with excellent visibility that makes spotting marine life effortless.

Koh Phai is considered one of the top snorkeling spots in Krabi thanks to its accessible shallow reefs located just a short distance from the beach. Beneath the surface, visitors can find a variety of hard corals, including brain corals and staghorn corals, alongside colorful reef fish such as sergeant majors and parrotfish. In deeper waters, sightings of blacktip reef sharks are occasionally reported. While the northern side of the island is more exposed to open sea conditions, the eastern and southern coasts are generally calm and well-suited for swimming, particularly during the high season. Basic facilities are available on the island, including a ranger station, public restrooms, and a small kiosk offering drinks and light snacks for visitors.

• The most common way to reach Koh Phai is by hiring a longtail boat or joining a speedboat tour from Phi Phi Don (approx. 30–45 mins) or from Ao Nang/Railey Beach in Krabi mainland (approx. 45–60 mins by speedboat).

• Arrive at the island early in the morning to avoid crowds and large tour groups.

• Bring a waterproof bag for your phone and camera during the boat trip.

• Use reef-safe sunscreen to help protect the underwater ecosystem.

• Check the tide tables before traveling to see the widest stretch of beach.

• Pack your own snacks and water as there are limited shops on the island.

Admission Fees:

• Foreigners: 400 THB for Adults / 200 THB for Children.

• Thai Nationals: 40 THB for Adults / 20 THB for Children.

• Note: If you visit other spots within the same National Park (such as Maya Bay or Koh Phi Phi Leh) on the same day, you can use the same ticket without paying again. Please keep your physical ticket with you at all times.
