“A viewpoint overlooking the beautiful sea of Chumphon, with scenic views of the bay and nearby islands, especially Koh Maprao. It is also home to Phra Buddha Metta Maha Baramee, a large bronze Buddha statue for good fortune.”
Khao Chao Mueang is a tourist destination that combines natural beauty with religious significance.
At the top of the hill, there is a viewing pavilion that provides panoramic views of Hat Sai Ri, the Gulf of Thailand, and the surrounding islands within Chumphon Archipelago National Park.
The hill is also the site of the Marine National Park Operation Center 1, which may provide nature education or information for marine tourism.
A major sacred site on the hill is Phra Buddha Metta Maha Baramee, a large bronze Buddha statue in the blessing posture, approximately 15 meters high from base to crown, built to bring merit and blessings to Chumphon residents and visitors.
At the hilltop, there is also Phra Phuttha That Chedi Si Chumphon, initiated by Mr. Prayoon Promphan, Governor of Chumphon, and his family, together with devout contributors including government officials, merchants, and the general public from Chumphon and other provinces. It was constructed as a meritorious act and a symbol of prosperity for Chumphon and Buddhists worldwide, as well as a landmark for the city of Chumphon.
The foundation stone laying ceremony began on April 1, 1994, officiated by Phra Anom Khun Muni, the provincial monk of Chumphon (Theravada). Construction followed the architectural plan designed by Mr. Prasert Sunthorawat from the Architecture Department, Fine Arts Department, and was supervised by Mr. Phutthiduang Malasutthi until completion in July 1994.
Visitors can enjoy the scenic views, take photos from the viewing pavilion, and learn about the local natural and marine environment at the operation center.
