“Wat Kho Khao is a revered temple on Kho Khao Beach, known for its unique statue of the Bodhisattva Guanyin seated on a frog and for the shrine of Prince of Chumphon built on a replica naval ship.”
Wat Thepnimit or Wat Kho Khao, is a community temple situated right by the scenic and tranquil Kho Khao Beach in Lang Suan District, Chumphon. The temple grounds are shaded and peaceful, with sea breezes flowing through, making it both a place of worship and a serene seaside retreat.
A highlight of the temple is the statue of the Bodhisattva Guanyin seated on a frog, a rare and distinctive depiction that symbolizes compassion and balance in overcoming life’s challenges. This image has become a spiritual icon for both locals and visiting devotees seeking blessings.
Nearby stands the Shrine of Admiral Prince Abhakara Kiartivongse, Prince of Chumphon, built upon the replica of the HTMS Chantarat, a naval vessel of historical significance. The original ship once carried the remains of the revered “Father of the Royal Thai Navy” from Hat Sai Ri to Bangkok, making the site deeply meaningful for Thai people, especially seafarers who hold him in great respect.
At the top of the hill behind the temple is a large standing Buddha image in the blessing posture, which serves as both a sacred object and a beautiful viewpoint overlooking Kho Khao Beach and the Gulf of Thailand. The panoramic view from here is breathtaking, especially during sunrise or sunset, making it a favorite spot for visitors.
