“The island is famous for Landmark Rock (Hin Lak Ngam), a natural rock formation that was historically used as a navigation reference, and for the remarkable natural phenomenon known as the “Hand of God.””
Ko Ngam Yai is a towering limestone island without a beach, making it inaccessible to visitors for landing because part of the island is under a swiftlet nest concession. Tourists are therefore limited to activities around the island.
The true wonder of Ko Ngam Yai lies underwater, where it is considered one of the best diving spots in Chumphon. The waters here are rich with marine biodiversity. Unlike the Andaman Sea, the visibility may be less, but the black coral and soft corals are abundant and rare, attracting divers from all over the world. The surrounding waters are home to a variety of fish, including grouper, elephant ear fish, moray eels, clownfish, and giant giant clams.
On the island itself, there are significant cultural and natural landmarks. Landmark Rock (Hin Lak Ngam) is a large rock historically used by local fishermen as a navigation reference for entering Pak Nam Chumphon. Additionally, a section of the cliff has been naturally eroded to resemble a “Hand of God,” which is a famous viewpoint and photography spot from boats.
