“The main highlight of the cave is the stream running through the center, creating beautiful views of stalactites and stalagmites along the pathway.”
Tham Nam Lod Khao Plu, is one of the most important natural and religious tourist attractions in Pathio District, Chumphon Province. The cave is located on Khao Plu, a limestone mountain with a rich history and many points of interest. The cave forms a long passage that visitors can walk through to reach the other side of the mountain.
What makes this cave famous is the stream flowing through its center all year round, fed by water seeping from the ceiling shafts. Inside, the cave is filled with stalactites and stalagmites that have naturally formed over thousands of years, creating intricate and breathtaking formations.
The surrounding area is also home to Wat Tham Khao Plu, a historic temple dating back to the Ayutthaya period. The temple is known as the residence of Luang Pho Jeet Punyasaro, a former abbot reputed for his spiritual powers. He reportedly knew the date of his passing in advance, and even after his death, his body did not decompose, inspiring deep faith among visitors.
Within the temple grounds is the Tham Nam Lod sacred well, believed to possess spiritual powers. The mineral water from this well is used in important religious ceremonies and rituals. Visitors may draw water for personal use or offerings according to their faith.
Tourists visiting the cave can explore the natural formations, photograph the stalactites and stalagmites, paddle in the stream inside certain sections of the cave, and learn about the cave ecosystem and limestone geology from knowledgeable local guides. The area around the cave is lush with ferns, palms, and climbing plants, adding to the serene and tranquil atmosphere.
Nearby, there is also a viewpoint on Khao Plu where visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Gulf of Thailand and nearby islands, making it an ideal spot for nature observation, sunrise or sunset viewing, and light recreational activities.
Tham Nam Lod, Khao Plu, is therefore a destination that offers a unique combination of nature, spirituality, and cultural heritage, making it suitable for tourists seeking both adventure and tranquility.
