Wang Prachan Checkpoint (Thailand–Malaysia Border) is one of the most important permanent border crossings in Satun Province. Located in Khuan Don District, it connects to Wang Kelian in Perlis, Malaysia, serving as a key route for trade, tourism, and economic exchange between southern Thailand and northern Malaysia.

The unique charm of Wang Prachan lies in its mountain valley setting, surrounded by limestone ranges and tropical rainforest near Thale Ban National Park. This location offers a cooler climate than surrounding lowlands, with morning mist and lush greenery throughout the year.

Its geographical character as a mountain pass has also made it strategically important for transportation and cross-border movement since the past.

The checkpoint plays a significant role in:

Although smaller than major crossings like Sadao in Songkhla, it remains vital to the local economy, especially for communities in Khuan Don and nearby areas.

The heart of the area is the Wang Prachan Border Market, an open-air semi-permanent market located right next to the checkpoint. It features:

• Imported Malaysian goods such as snacks, chocolates, and beverages

• Affordable clothing and fashion items

• Small electrical appliances

• Kitchenware and household goods

• Seasonal fruits (including imports from Malaysia at times)

• Generally cheaper prices than in town

• A blend of Thai and Malay cultures

• Communication in both Thai and Malay languages

• Especially lively on weekends and public holidays

• By Car: From Satun town, take Highway 406 (Satun–Rattaphum) Khuan Don District, then turn onto Highway 4184 (Khuan Don–Wang Prachan) and continue to the border. Total distance is 40 km.
