“A world-class learning center renowned for transforming degraded land into a thriving mangrove ecosystem integrated with energy-saving innovations.”

Sirindhorn International Environmental Park is one of Thailand’s most important environmental education centers, established to honor and continue the royal initiatives of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in environmental conservation and sustainable development. Located within Phra Ram VI Military Camp in Phetchaburi Province, the area was formerly degraded due to unbalanced land use before being transformed into a comprehensive environmental learning space.

The concept of the park originated from the recognition of the critical importance of coastal resource restoration and mangrove ecosystems, which serve as natural protective barriers for the country. The site was therefore rehabilitated and developed into a modern environmental learning center that integrates scientific knowledge, technology, and local wisdom, making environmental education accessible to people of all ages.

Historically, the mangrove forests in this area suffered severe degradation from poor land management, leading to a significant decline in biodiversity. Restoration efforts began with mangrove reforestation, soil and water improvement, and the creation of nature study trails that allow visitors to observe ecosystem recovery firsthand. As a result, various coastal species such as mudskippers, fiddler crabs, and migratory birds have gradually returned, demonstrating a successful ecological revival.

Alongside ecosystem restoration, the park functions as a learning hub for energy and environmental management. It showcases clean energy technologies and practical approaches to resource efficiency. Buildings within the park are designed according to green architecture principles to minimize energy consumption while harmonizing with the natural surroundings, reflecting a development approach that places nature at its core.

Today, the Sirindhorn International Environmental Park is more than a tourist attraction; it is a living “outdoor classroom” that educates, inspires, and instills environmental awareness among youth and the general public. Visitors gain knowledge through exhibitions, hands-on activities, and real environmental settings, forming a strong foundation for long-term and sustainable environmental stewardship.
