“Honor the courage and sacrifice of the heroes of Thung Chang and explore the Thung Chang Military Museum, which displays real weapons, equipment, and stories from Thailand’s military history.”

The Monument of Thung Chang Heroic Deeds, also known as the Civilian, Police, and Military Heroic Deeds Memorial, is located along Highway No. 1080 in Thung Chang District, Nan. It was built to honor the bravery of the soldiers and civilians who fought and sacrificed their lives during the Indochina War in 1940, when Thai forces defended the country against invading French troops from the Lao side.

The monument features a soldier holding the Thai national flag, standing proudly atop a stone pedestal — a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother presided over the opening and wreath-laying ceremony on February 10, 1976, which has since become the annual Remembrance and Memorial Day for the heroes of Thung Chang.

Nearby, about 200 meters from the monument, stands the Thung Chang Military Museum, where visitors can learn about Thailand’s military history through exhibits of weapons, military equipment, and displays depicting battles between Thai forces and communist insurgents. Admission is free, though visitors must inform the staff in advance to arrange entry.

The surrounding area of the monument is shaded and peaceful, with open grounds suitable for rest and photography. It is a meaningful stop for those interested in Thai military history, as well as travelers passing through the Nan–Thung Chang route.

A visit to the Monument of Thung Chang Heroic Deeds is not only a journey through Thailand’s past but also a tribute to the bravery, patriotism, and sacrifice that helped preserve the nation’s independence — a legacy still honored today.
