“Visit the breathtaking Tham Kaeo Neramit (Crystal Cave), adorned with countless sparkling mirrors, and enjoy 360-degree views from the ancient laterite pagoda, accompanied by free-roaming peacocks and deer.”

Klai Kangwon Temple, officially known as Wat Khao Saraphat Dee Sri Charoen Tham, is one of the most distinctive Buddhist attractions in Hanka District, Chai Nat Province. Its history dates back to the Lopburi period approximately 1,000–1,500 years ago. The site was once an abandoned temple hidden within dense forest until it was carefully restored and developed by Luang Pho Mian (Phra Khru Suman Thammasathit), a visionary monk who transformed the overgrown land into a renewed center of faith for the community. He improved the landscape, planted trees, and organized the temple grounds systematically, creating a peaceful and shaded sanctuary filled with spiritual energy.

The temple’s main highlight is Tham Kaeo Neramit (Tham Kaeo Chulamani), a beautifully constructed sandstone cave replica. The interior is decorated with countless small pieces of colored glass that sparkle brilliantly when illuminated, creating a jewel-like and sacred atmosphere. Inside the cave, a replica of the Buddha’s footprint is enshrined for worship and blessings. Visitors can also climb the pathway to the hilltop to see the Chedi of the Four Buddha Footprints, an important viewpoint overlooking vast rice fields and forest landscapes of Hanka District. The scenery is particularly breathtaking during sunrise and sunset.

Another unique charm that distinguishes Klai Kangwon Temple is its atmosphere resembling a natural open zoo. Various wildlife species such as Thai peacocks, barking deer, deer, and jungle fowl live freely within the temple grounds. These animals are accustomed to visitors and coexist harmoniously within the preserved forest environment. Tourists can observe them at close range while respecting nature, reflecting a balanced relationship between humans, animals, and the natural world.

Beyond being a tourist destination, Klai Kangwon Temple is also a highly suitable meditation retreat. Its tranquil surroundings, natural landscape, and spiritually uplifting atmosphere provide an ideal setting for mindfulness practice and inner peace. Visitors truly experience the meaning of the name “Klai Kangwon,” which means “far from worries,” as they leave behind life’s stresses and return with renewed clarity and calmness.
