Huay Tho Waterfall is located within Khao Phanom Bencha National Park, Thailand’s 30th national park, which encompasses Khao Phanom Bencha—the highest mountain in Krabi Province, rising to approximately 1,397 meters above sea level. The waterfall originates from this complex mountain range, cascading gracefully over massive granite formations to form 11 distinct tiers. Surrounded by lush tropical rainforest, the area remains remarkably pristine. In 1973, King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit visited the site, highlighting its national significance and exceptional natural beauty.

From a geological perspective, the waterfall flows over durable granite rock, which is highly resistant to erosion. This natural characteristic allows the water to remain crystal clear and largely free of sediment throughout the year. Even during the rainy season, when water volume increases and currents become stronger, the clarity of the water is well preserved. Each tier of the waterfall is uniquely named based on its physical features, such as “Wang Tewada” (Angel’s Pool), the first and most popular level due to its wide and relatively shallow basin, making it ideal for swimming. Other notable tiers, including “Wang Sam Hap” and “Wang Ton Phrae,” offer equally scenic views as the water flows down layered rock formations.

The surrounding area is covered by dense evergreen rainforest, serving as a habitat for a wide variety of rare plant species and wildlife, including Malayan tapirs, serows, and hornbills. This rich biodiversity reflects the health and importance of the watershed ecosystem, which plays a crucial role in sustaining local water resources and nearby communities in Krabi. As such, Huay Tho Waterfall is not only a beautiful natural attraction but also an ecologically significant site worthy of conservation.

• From Krabi Town, take Highway 4034, then turn onto Highway 4035 (Sri Trang Road). Drive for approximately 20 kilometers following the signs for Khao Phanom Bencha National Park. The road is paved all the way to the park entrance.

• Arrive in the early morning to avoid strong sunlight and large crowds.

• Bring a change of clothes and a towel if you plan to swim in the pools.

• Wear hiking shoes or footwear with good grip to prevent slipping on granite.

• Check the weather forecast; heavy rain can cause rapid increases in water flow.

• Keep the area clean by taking all trash back to the designated bins outside.
