Nong Thung Thong Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Khao Tok Sub-district, Khian Sa District, Surat Thani Province, covering an area of approximately 18,475 rai or 29.56 square kilometers. It was declared a wildlife sanctuary on December 2, 1985.
This area is an important ecosystem of the Tapi River Basin, functioning as a natural water storage area, a nursery for aquatic animals, and helping to maintain the ecological balance in the southern region.
Topography
The majority of the area is floodplain, combined with ponds, natural canals, and peat swamp forests, creating a large and highly fertile wetland ecosystem.
There are a total of 5 important ponds, with "Nong Thung Thong", approximately 2,500 rai in size, being the largest pond and the heart of the ecosystem.
Biodiversity
This area is a habitat for various wildlife species, including monkeys, lesser mouse-deer, otters, wild chickens, civets, mongooses, as well as reptiles and amphibians.
It is also home to more than 70 species of birds, both resident and migratory birds from cold regions, such as ducks, herons, and various water birds.
The best time for bird watching is October – March.
Flora and Ecosystem
The vegetation is mostly peat swamp forest and wetland plants such as shoreline grasses, water-tolerant plants, and floating aquatic plants, which are the foundation of the food chain.
This makes the area a Tropical Wetland Ecosystem that is rich and important at the regional level.

Recommended Time
It is best to visit during the morning (07:00 – 09:30 AM) and evening (04:00 – 06:00 PM), especially during sunset when it is beautiful and peaceful.
