Yarang Ancient City is one of the most important historical landmarks in Pattani Province. Archaeological studies suggest that this area was once the location of the Langkasuka Kingdom, an ancient polity frequently mentioned in historical Chinese and Indian records. The city was designed with a large rectangular layout surrounded by a defensive moat system, indicating an advanced level of urban planning for its time.

The ancient settlement is divided into three main archaeological groups: Ban Chale, Ban Wat, and Ban Kamiyoe. Excavations have uncovered more than forty archaeological structures, many of which are religious monuments associated with Mahayana Buddhism and Brahmanism. These structures reflect the cultural diversity and religious influences that once flourished in this important trading hub.

Among the most prominent remains is the Ban Chale archaeological complex, where restoration work has revealed the structure of a large brick stupa. The monument features a cross-shaped base decorated with smaller replica stupas, illustrating a fascinating blend of Dvaravati and Srivijaya artistic influences. Archaeologists have also discovered numerous artifacts in the area, including terracotta votive tablets, miniature stupas, and Chinese ceramics. • By Car: From Pattani city, take Highway 410 (Pattani–Yala Road) for about 15 kilometers to Yarang District. Clear signposts will guide visitors to the Yarang Ancient City site.

• By Public Transport: Take a bus or minivan on the Pattani–Yala route and get off near Yarang District. From there, local motorcycle taxis can take visitors to the different archaeological sites.
