“Pay respect to Luang Pho Dam (Phra Ratcha Phuttharangsi), a highly revered monk known for his compassion and spiritual merit, and admire the gracefully restored ordination hall (ubosot) within the temple grounds.”

Wat Mujalinthavapi Viharn, commonly known by locals as Wat Tuyong, is an important religious site whose history is closely connected with the establishment of Nong Chik District. The temple was originally founded in 1845 (B.E. 2388) by Phraya Wichianphakdi Si Songkhram when the district administrative center was relocated to Tuyong Subdistrict.

The temple later gained national recognition during the reign of King Chulalongkorn, who visited Nong Chik during his royal tour of the southern region. The king expressed great faith in the temple and graciously donated funds to support the construction of the ordination hall, while also bestowing the new name “Wat Mujalinthavapi Viharn.” The name carries an auspicious meaning referring to the pond and the “Chik” trees that once surrounded the temple area.

One of the temple’s most significant attractions is the Luang Pho Dam Viharn, where statues of three former abbots are enshrined. Among them, Luang Pho Dam (Phra Ratcha Phuttharangsi), the fifth abbot, is especially revered by devotees. His reputation for spiritual power, compassion, and virtuous conduct spread widely throughout the region, making the viharn a major destination for those seeking blessings.

Within the temple grounds, visitors will also find several interesting sacred structures and historical artifacts. These include a large Sri Lankan–style bell-shaped stupa that houses relics of the Buddha brought from Myanmar, as well as a decorative pavilion (mondop) modeled after architectural elements from Bang Pa-In Royal Palace. The structure reflects the refined elegance of traditional Thai art and craftsmanship.

Today, the temple serves not only as a place for religious ceremonies but also as an important spiritual and cultural center for local Buddhist communities in southern Thailand. The grounds are shaded, peaceful, and well maintained, making it an ideal place for visitors to practice merit-making, learn about local history, and experience the enduring cultural heritage of Pattani Province.
