“Experience the refreshing atmosphere of Sai Khao Waterfall, where water cascades from a 40-meter-high cliff into a clear natural pool, and explore nature trails to discover the rare Golden Leaves plant.”
Sai Khao Waterfall National Park is considered one of the most important ecotourism destinations in Pattani Province. The park is located within the complex terrain of the Sankalakhiri Mountain Range, with elevations ranging from approximately 100 to 1,000 meters above sea level. Much of the area is covered by dense tropical rainforest, making it an important watershed for several rivers and streams that supply water to both Pattani and Yala provinces.
The park’s main attraction is Sai Khao Waterfall, where streams of water flow over rocky cliffs before cascading down into a natural pool below. The water is remarkably clear, allowing visitors to easily see rocks beneath the surface and schools of mahseer fish swimming in the pool. The surrounding forest is rich with diverse plant life, creating a cool and humid environment throughout the year.
Another highlight that has brought national recognition to the park is the famous “Golden Leaves” plant, locally known as Yan Da Oh. This rare climbing plant has soft velvet-like leaves that appear bright golden when sunlight reflects on them. The species was first discovered in this area and has since become a symbol of the park’s unique biodiversity.
In addition to Sai Khao Waterfall, the national park also features several other natural attractions such as Phong Phong Waterfall, Aranyawarin Waterfall, and mountain viewpoints where visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Pattani and Yala provinces.
For local residents of Khok Pho District and nearby areas, the park serves as an important recreational space. During weekends and holidays, families and visitors often gather here to relax, swim in the natural pools, and enjoy outdoor activities. The park is carefully managed to maintain cleanliness and ecological balance, ensuring that visitors can experience the beauty of the southern rainforest while helping preserve it for future generations.
