“Relax on the long stretch of white sandy beach shaded by pine trees and observe the local fishermen bringing their colorful Kolae boats ashore.”

Kubu Beach, also known as Ban Khlong Tan Beach, is a natural coastal attraction located in Sala Mai Subdistrict, Tak Bai District, Narathiwat Province. The name “Kubu” is derived from a local Malay word referring to a fort or protective structure, possibly reflecting the historical coastal geography that once served as a natural barrier against monsoon winds.

The beach is notable for its wide shoreline that stretches continuously for several kilometers. The sand is fine and soft with a clean white tone, setting it apart from some darker-sand beaches in nearby areas. The sea here is relatively clear and calm, as the area is far from major industrial zones and large ports. This makes it suitable for swimming, seaside activities, and peaceful relaxation.

Culturally, the beach is closely connected to the lifestyle of Ban Khlong Tan villagers, most of whom work in agriculture and coastal fishing. Visitors can see traditional Kolae boats lined up along the shore, beautifully painted with intricate patterns that represent a distinctive cultural symbol of Narathiwat Province. Tall pine trees grow densely along the coastline, providing natural shade and creating a pleasant atmosphere for picnics and family gatherings.

With its quiet surroundings and unspoiled environment, Kubu Beach is ideal for travelers seeking tranquility—whether to read, meditate, take photographs, or simply enjoy the sound of the waves. During the dry season, the steady sea breeze also makes it a suitable location for kite flying and beach sports. The beach remains a peaceful retreat and a hidden gem of Tak Bai.

How to Get There
  • By Car: From Narathiwat town, take Highway 4084 (Narathiwat–Tak Bai Road) toward Tak Bai District. Upon reaching Sala Mai Subdistrict, look for signs to Ban Khlong Tan Village or Kubu Beach on the left side. Drive along the community road for approximately 2–3 kilometers to reach the beach.
  • By Public Transport: Take a local songthaew from Narathiwat to Tak Bai and get off at Sala Mai intersection. From there, hire a motorcycle taxi to the beach, as the distance from the main road to the shoreline is relatively far for walking.
