“Sukthalai Waterfall A beautiful 5-tier waterfall, with the second tier as the highlight featuring a clear emerald pool, surrounded by forest and rocky cliffs, offering  and refreshing atmosphere perfect for relaxation.”

Sukthalai Waterfall, formerly known as Kuelong Waterfall, is located in the southern self-help settlement area (Kuelong) in Bannang Sata District, Yala. It lies within the Hala–Bala forest complex, one of the most fertile tropical rainforests in southern Thailand.

The waterfall consists of approximately five tiers, formed by water flowing down gently sloping natural rock faces. Each level creates pools of varying sizes. The second tier is the highlight, featuring a wide basin with crystal-clear emerald-green water with a bluish hue, allowing visibility to the rocky bottom—making it the most suitable spot for swimming.

The rocks have been shaped by long-term natural erosion, resulting in unique formations and some smooth, slippery surfaces. Combined with the dense canopy of large tropical trees, the area remains cool year-round. Sunlight filtering through the forest enhances the vivid color of the water, making it especially striking.

The surrounding environment remains highly natural and rich in biodiversity, including tropical plants, ferns, mosses, and small wildlife. The overall atmosphere is peaceful and uncrowded, ideal for travelers seeking a quiet nature retreat.

In terms of facilities, there are wooden walkways and small bridges that provide convenient and safe access to each tier, along with designated rest areas. These structures are designed to blend with the natural surroundings and minimize environmental impact.

Historically and culturally, the name “Sukthalai” was graciously bestowed by Princess Srinagarindra (the Princess Mother) during her visit to the area, reflecting the waterfall’s serene and distinctive natural beauty.
