“Experience the only pink granite mountain landscape in Nakhon Sawan, challenge yourself by passing through the iconic “narrow rock passage” to pay respect to the Buddha’s Footprint, and enjoy breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views over the entire Nong Bua town.”
Khao Phra and Khao Sung are iconic landmarks and spiritual centers of Nong Bua District, located along two naturally aligned parallel mountain ridges. The area combines religious significance, geological uniqueness, and scenic beauty, making it one of the most distinctive destinations in Nakhon Sawan.
Khao Phra and Wat Khao Phra rise to approximately 150 meters above ground level. At the summit enshrines a Chiang Saen–style Buddha image alongside a sacred replica of the Buddha’s Footprint, deeply revered by local residents. The most memorable highlight of the ascent is the natural rock crevice, only about 30 centimeters wide, where visitors must carefully pass through before reaching the summit—an experience seen as both a physical challenge and a test of faith.
The identity of pink granite defines this mountain. Khao Phra is composed primarily of light pink granite and other granite variations, a signature geological feature of Nong Bua, widely known as a center for marble and granite resources. Due to its significance, the entire area is strictly protected and prohibited from mining, serving instead as a natural geological learning site.
Caves and rock gardens add further character to Khao Phra. The mountain features naturally formed rock gardens, a deep cave inhabited by large colonies of bats, and a natural stone basin that collects rainwater. Local belief holds this water to be sacred, often used symbolically in traditional rituals and religious practices.
Khao Sung, located adjacent to Khao Phra, is regarded as the finest viewpoint in the area. From its summit, visitors can enjoy expansive views of green rice fields and the entire Nong Bua town. During the farming season, the landscape transforms into a striking patchwork of green and golden fields stretching to the horizon.
