“Experience the wonder of four mountain peaks 1,200 meters above sea level, featuring the most beautiful sunrise and sunset viewpoints in the Lower North”

Ramkhamhaeng National Park, locally known as Khao Luang, was the first historical national park established in Thailand in 1980. The area covers steep mountains with shapes resembling ancient pagodas deep within the forest. The highest peak stands approximately 1,200 meters above mean sea level. Geographically, it is a solitary mountain rising majestically over the Yom River basin. Historically, this area was vital as a primary water source, where ancient Sukhothai citizens used irrigation systems to divert water to the old city. It was also believed to be a sacred site for royal ceremonies during the Sukhothai period.

The heart of the visit is the trek to the summit of Khao Luang, a distance of approximately 3.7 kilometers. Although the distance may seem short, the trail is exceptionally steep throughout (averaging 45-60 degrees). Hikers must test their endurance through various forest types, ranging from dry dipterocarp and mixed deciduous forests to lush hill evergreen forests. At the summit, visitors will discover four significant peaks: Khao Narai (the sunrise and sea of mist viewpoint), Khao Phra Chedi, Khao Phu Ka, and Khao Mae Ya (the sunset viewpoint). Each peak offers a unique and impressive perspective.

Beyond the stunning scenery, the park is home to diverse wildlife and rare plants, particularly medicinal herbs famous since ancient times. The summit features a large natural grassland known as Thung Ya Mueang Bon, providing a wide area for camping amidst cold weather year-round. Stargazing on a clear night and waking up to the first light of dawn over the Khao Luang range is a truly rewarding experience for such a challenging journey.

Today, the park is highly popular among adventure seekers and landscape photographers. Visiting this site offers a different perspective of Sukhothai, showcasing the natural grandeur that has nurtured Thai civilization for centuries. It remains a must-visit destination for hikers seeking to record their memories as a "Conqueror of Khao Luang Sukhothai."

It is highly recommended to ask for the phone number of the driver who dropped you off to schedule a pickup for your return. Alternatively, you can contact the park officers to help coordinate a local hired vehicle for you.
