“Enjoy Wang Nok Aen Waterfall, explore the Literature Plant Garden, Herbal Garden, and Fragrant Plant Garden, walk the 17-point nature trail, and admire the view from Sala Van Sai.”

Sakunothayan Arboretum, formerly known as Wang Nok Aen Waterfall, is located in Wang Thong District, about 33 km from Phitsanulok city. It was named by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej in 1958 during his northern royal visit. “Sakunothayan” means “a garden for birds,” reflecting the area’s richness and ecological importance.

Wang Nok Aen Waterfall:

The waterfall originates from the Khek River, flowing over a high cliff into a single-tier cascade. During the rainy season, water flows strongly and is unsuitable for swimming, while in the dry season, calm pools allow safe wading. Visitors can enjoy viewing, kayaking, swimming, and photography.

Learning Gardens and Nature Trails:

The arboretum features the Literature Plant Garden, Herbal Garden, and Fragrant Plant Garden with labeled plant species. The Sakunothayan Nature Trail has 17 learning points for exploring the local ecosystem.

Royal Viewing Structures:

The wooden Sala Van Sai and Plubpla Rab Sed were built by the Royal Forest Department to honor the King and Queen. Visitors can enjoy panoramic waterfall views from Sala Van Sai, while Plubpla Rab Sed is off-limits.

Popular Activities:

Nature walks, waterfall sightseeing, kayaking, swimming, and riverside picnics are common activities for families and groups.

Nearby Attractions:

Wat Phra Si Mahathat Woramahawihan, Thung Salaeng Luang National Park, Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park.
