“Worship the unique inclined Buddha footprint, admire the 3-ton White Jade Guanyin, and enjoy 360° panoramic views of Wang Thong.”

Khao Samo Khaeng is a sacred hill and key viewpoint in Wang Thong. Visitors can pay respects at the replica Buddha footprint, admire the White Jade Guanyin, and enjoy a 360° view of the town and rice fields. The hill reflects history from the Sukhothai era to the present, making it both a natural attraction and spiritual center.

The Sacred Hill
The hill rises about 200 meters above the surrounding plains of the Nan and Wang Thong rivers. Historically, it is believed to be the site of an ancient city and linked to King Maha Thammaracha I (Pho Khun Li Thai), who brought a replica Buddha footprint here.

Centers of Faith
Originally, there were 7 temples on the hill. Today, notable religious sites include:

  • Wat Phra Phutthabat Khao Samo Khaeng – houses a replica Buddha footprint and the rare inclined Buddha footprint on the cliff.

  • Wat Ratchakhiri Hiranyaram – home to the 3-meter, 3-ton White Jade Guanyin, carved from a single jade block.

  • Wat Chedi Yod Duan – located at the summit, featuring a Sukhothai-style chedi with a broken top.

Timeless Views
The road to the summit winds through shaded forest. At the top, visitors can enjoy 360° panoramic views of Wang Thong and surrounding rice fields. During sunset, golden light illuminates the fields and ancient chedis, creating unforgettable scenery.

How to Get There
  • By Car: From Phitsanulok City, take Highway 12 (Phitsanulok–Lom Sak). Around km 14, a large sign marks the entrance on the left. The paved road is accessible to all vehicles.
