“Explore camouflaged wooden houses in a pine forest, learn about structured communal living with shared facilities like meeting halls and central kitchens, and experience a living museum reflecting family life during times of conflict.”

Mass Village offers one of the most human perspectives of Phu Hin Rong Kla’s past. While many sites in the area focus on military and political history, this place represents the everyday life of members of the Communist Party of Thailand (CPT) and their families, who sought refuge deep in the forest.

The houses are simple wooden structures built with practicality in mind, using planks and metal or natural roofing. The village layout blends seamlessly with the surrounding terrain and pine forest, helping conceal it from aerial surveillance. Inside, each house is compact but well-organized, reflecting a lifestyle that required adaptability, resilience, and self-reliance.

A key highlight is the well-structured communal system. The village included shared spaces such as meeting halls (clubs) and central kitchens that served large groups, demonstrating a cooperative way of living and efficient resource management. This organization reveals how the community functioned not just as a refuge, but as a fully operational society.

Surrounded by peaceful pine forests, the atmosphere is calm and reflective throughout the year. During the cool season, light mist often drapes over the village, adding a sense of quiet solemnity. Today, Mass Village stands as a “living museum”, allowing visitors to learn, reflect, and better understand the value of peace through the stories of the past.
