“A serene hidden waterfall cascading over rocky tiers amidst lush forests. Easily accessible near Khao Yai’s Noen Hom gate, perfect for relaxing and breathing fresh air.”

Than Rattana Waterfall is a small natural waterfall located within Khao Yai National Park, on the Prachinburi province side, in the Noen Hom subdistrict of Mueang Prachinburi district. It's close to the Noen Hom–Khao Yai road (Highway 3077), a popular scenic route for tourists seeking relaxation and the tranquil atmosphere of Khao Yai's lush rainforest. Unlike the towering cliffs of Heun Narok or Heun Suwat waterfalls, this waterfall features water cascading over natural rock formations and rapids in a valley. Its charm lies in its peacefulness, shady surroundings, and easy access from the main road, making it an ideal stop for relaxation while traveling up Khao Yai from the Prachinburi side.

The area surrounding the waterfall is covered by lush rainforest, part of the Dong Phaya Yen–Khao Yai World Heritage Site. The high humidity throughout the year supports the growth of diverse forest vegetation, including ferns, mosses, wild orchids, and large trees that provide shade along the natural trails. The overall atmosphere is quiet, with the sounds of flowing water and wildlife, making it perfect for those seeking relaxation, fresh air, or to study the tropical forest ecosystem. During certain periods, tourists may spot local birds, butterflies, and insects that inhabit the highly pristine Khao Yai forest. The most striking feature of Than Ratana Waterfall is the cascading water flowing over natural rocks and wide rock formations. Especially during the rainy season, from approximately June to November, the water volume is exceptionally high, creating a beautiful spectacle of continuous water flowing amidst the lush green forest. This period is considered the best time to visit the waterfall because the natural environment is fresh, the air is cool, and the vegetation is at its most vibrant. During the dry season, the water volume naturally decreases, but it remains shady and ideal for relaxing in close proximity to nature.

Although Than Ratana Waterfall is not a major tourist attraction with large-scale facilities like other important sites in Khao Yai, it is popular among tourists who appreciate tranquil nature, as well as adventure seekers who enjoy rappelling in the nearby area. The area at the base of the waterfall and the surrounding valleys feature natural cliffs and waterways suitable for extreme activities under the supervision of park officials. However, some areas lack official nature trails, so tourists should strictly follow the instructions of park officials and avoid venturing deep into the forest on their own for safety reasons.

Located approximately 25 kilometers from Prachinburi town and only 50-100 meters from the main road, Than Ratana Waterfall is easily accessible compared to many other waterfalls in the Khao Yai National Park area. Tourists can park near the entrance and walk a short distance to the waterfall, making it ideal for families, general tourists, and those seeking a stopover while traveling up Khao Yai National Park from the Prachinburi side. Furthermore, the tranquility of the area is perfect for nature photography, listening to the sound of the waterfall, and experiencing the Khao Yai forest atmosphere from a different perspective than the crowded main tourist spots.

How to Get There
  • From Prachin Buri city center, take Highway 3077 (Noen Hom-Khao Yai road) toward the Noen Hom entrance of Khao Yai National Park. The waterfall is located along the ascent; look for signage near the park protection unit. After parking, a short walk through a nature trail leads you to the falls.
