Thai Song Dam Cultural Village / Lao Song, also known as Lao Song, is an ethnic community with a long and fascinating history located in Phetchaburi Province. The community center, Thai Song Dam Cultural Center, was established to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the Thai Song Dam people, who historically migrated from the Dien Bien Phu region.

This village is remarkable for maintaining its cultural identity through language, daily life, and harmonious living with the surrounding environment, giving visitors a sense of stepping back in time.

A key highlight of the village is the traditional Thai Song Dam house, a raised wooden home with a high underfloor space, a thatched roof made from cogon grass or palm leaves, shaped like a turtle’s back, and decorated with khuang kwat (ornamental gables). Inside, the house displays daily life artifacts, agricultural tools, and handwoven watermelon-patterned fabrics, reflecting exquisite craftsmanship. Traditional clothing in dark shades or navy blue, embroidered with intricate patterns, represents ancestral beliefs and social order.

Visitors can experience hands-on community activities, such as weaving on antique looms, embroidery, and preparing traditional local dishes. The Cultural Center provides a shaded, welcoming environment. During annual festivals, visitors can enjoy Kan dance and Kon performances, vibrant folk games that showcase colorful attire and local music, embodying the concept of living culture.

• From Bangkok, take Phetkasem Road (Highway 4) towards Phetkhasem. Upon reaching Khao Yoi District, look for signs for Wat Khao Yoi or the District Office, then follow signs to the Thai Song Dam Cultural Center.

Public Transport:

• Take a van from Bangkok to Phetchaburi or Cha-am, get off at the front of Khao Yoi District Office, and take a motorcycle taxi to the cultural center.

Rental Car:

• Renting a car from Phetchaburi city allows for a scenic drive through rice fields along the way to the village.

Best Season:

• Visitable all year round, but April is particularly special for the Thai Song Dam Traditional Festival, where you can see the community in full traditional dress.

Dress Code:

• It is highly recommended to rent a Thai Song Dam costume for photos with the ancient houses to capture the most authentic and beautiful atmosphere.
