“Part of Thailand’s largest World Heritage forest, covering rich rainforest, important river sources, and habitats for rare wildlife.”

Thung Yai Naresuan East Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area and a World Heritage site together with Huai Kha Khaeng, with strict conservation measures.

Significance: It has a complete ecosystem, is the source of several important rivers, and provides refuge for large and rare wildlife.

Wildlife and Flora: Home to over 300 bird species, more than 80 mammals including tigers, elephants, gaur, and banteng. The plant diversity is exceptionally high.

Activities: Ideal for research and studying forest and wildlife ecosystems, with designated camping areas prepared by the sanctuary headquarters.


How to Get There
  • Private car: Approximately 50 km from Umphang town to the eastern area (Mae La Muang).

  • Note: Some roads are dirt tracks and may be challenging, especially in the rainy season. A 4x4 or suitable vehicle is recommended.

  • Permit: Prior written permission is required from the Protected Areas Regional Office or the sanctuary headquarters due to limited visitor numbers.

  • Visiting season: Open December–May (dry season), closed June–November (rainy season).

  • Preparation: Be ready for camping as facilities are minimal, and strictly follow sanctuary regulations.
