“One of Thailand's finest sources for premium Arabica coffee, featuring stunning Wild Himalayan Cherry blossoms throughout the mountain during the winter season.”

Doi Chang located in Wa Wi Subdistrict, is a high peak in the Doi Wa Wi range and serves as the headwater for the Mae Kon stream. Originally inhabited by various ethnic hill tribes who practiced shifting cultivation, the area was later developed into a highland agricultural research station to promote temperate plants. Today, it has evolved into a key agricultural academic service center. Standing at over 1,000 meters above sea level, the area remains cool year-round with an average temperature of just 18 degrees Celsius, making it a perfect retreat and a prime location for temperate farming.

The fame of Doi Chang is globally recognized for its Premium Arabica Coffee. Visitors can witness vast coffee plantations covering the mountainside, which become exceptionally beautiful during the harvest season. Furthermore, between December and early January, the mountain is painted in pink by Wild Himalayan Cherry  blossoms. This natural beauty, combined with the simple and friendly lifestyle of the local ethnic communities, makes Doi Chang an incredibly impressive destination for all travelers.

The mountain offers various points of interest, starting with experimental plots of temperate flowers and fruits such as Chestnuts, Macadamias, Chinese Apricots, Peaches, and Persimmons. Visitors can stroll through these plots to see the winter harvests. Following this, one should not miss tasting fresh Arabica coffee at the processing center, where the roasting process is demonstrated. The distinctively fragrant and smooth flavor of Doi Chang coffee is a unique experience that coffee enthusiasts must enjoy at least once.

A significant site of faith is the Doi Chang Buddhist Park, a meditation sanctuary amidst lush forests. The highlight here is the Holy Well or Emerald Pond, a large pond with crystal-clear emerald water reflecting the abundance of nature. The path is surrounded by large trees and the constant sounds of wildlife. A small trail from the pond leads to a sanctuary area where various Buddha statues reside, offering a peaceful atmosphere that helps purify the mind.

The trip concludes beautifully at the Doi Chang Viewpoint, which is decorated with diverse colorful temperate flowers. During winter, the air becomes very cold starting from late afternoon. Tourists often relax on the grassy slopes to witness the day’s final light. The moment the sun disappears behind the horizon, casting a golden glow across the complex mountain ranges, is a sight beyond words and a precious memory for anyone visiting Doi Chang, Chiang Rai.
