“Koh Maprao remains largely untouched by development, maintaining its pristine natural charm. The island features a white sandy beach, rich coral reefs, and is one of the islands under the bird’s nest concession. Its geological features are also remarkable, including the unique two-root coconut tree and the Chong Khao Khat cliff passage, which offers stunning coastal scenery.”
Koh Maprao is one of the islands within Mu Ko Chumphon National Park, a marine conservation area that protects the rich biodiversity of Chumphon’s coastal waters. Although it is a small island — with a beach of only about 100 meters long — it captivates visitors with its serene and natural beauty.
The surrounding waters of Koh Maprao are home to colorful coral reefs and abundant marine life, making it a popular spot for snorkeling. It is also ideal for light adventure activities such as kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) from nearby Hat Sai Ree Beach, since the island is located very close to the mainland shore.
Part of the island is designated as a bird’s nest concession area, meaning some sections — particularly the rocky cliffs and caves — are restricted to protect the nesting grounds of swiftlets. Tourists are allowed to swim, snorkel, and enjoy water activities around the island, but landing on the island itself requires prior permission from the Chumphon Provincial Office.
How to Get There
- Visitors can charter a boat from the Mu Ko Chumphon National Park Office (located behind Hat Sai Ree Beach) or hire a local boat from Hat Sai Ree. The journey takes only a few minutes since Koh Maprao is situated very close to the coastline.
