“A peaceful forest waterfall featuring serene, uncrowded trails and beautiful crystal streams cascading over glistening silver sandstone”
Sai Ngoen Waterfall is located within Nam Nao National Park in Phetchabun Province. This large, highly abundant mountain forest area is a vital watershed for the northeastern and northern regions of Thailand. The surrounding area features complex mountain ranges covered with dry evergreen forest, mixed deciduous forest, and pine forest, resulting in a diverse ecosystem of plants and wildlife.
Sai Ngoen Waterfall is a small to medium-sized waterfall formed by a natural stream within the park's forest. It's a single-tiered waterfall flowing over sandstone cliffs into a pool below, approximately 5 meters high. The surrounding environment is tranquil and shady, with large trees and high-humidity vegetation such as moss and ferns, reflecting the richness of the area's evergreen forest. The cascading sandstone cliffs and the flowing water create a simple yet beautiful natural landscape.
The access route to Sai Ngoen Waterfall is a nature trail that connects to other waterfalls and attractions in the nearby park, such as Sai Kaew Waterfall and Hew Sai Waterfall. Visitors hike through a shaded forest trail, which remains largely untouched, preserving its pristine forest character.
The best time to visit is during the rainy season, approximately from June to October. The waterfall has the highest water volume, resulting in a powerful flow and stunning scenery. During the winter months, from November to February, the water volume decreases, but the atmosphere is cool and pleasant, ideal for hiking and relaxing in nature. However, the area can be damp and slippery at certain times of the year, so caution is advised when traveling.
Sai Ngern Waterfall is not a large-scale tourist attraction, so it lacks many amenities. This is advantageous because it retains its true natural beauty, making it perfect for tourists who enjoy tranquility, nature walks, and unobstructed photography of the forest and mountains.
How to Get There
- Drive along Highway 12 (Lom Sak-Chum Phae route). The main entrance to the waterfall trail is located around Kilometer Marker 64.5. From there, you can follow the designated nature path, which is about a 700-meter walk from the neighboring Sai Kaeo Waterfall.
Travel Tips
- Visit during late rainy to early cool season for the most beautiful waterfall flow.
- Wear anti-slip trekking shoes as the trail can be muddy and slippery.
- Bring enough drinking water since there are no shops along the trail.
