“Challenge your faith by climbing the 469 steps to pay respects to "Luang Pho Khao" (Phra Buddha Dhamma Rangsi Muni Nat Sasada) at the summit, and enjoy the most beautiful panoramic views of Lopburi’s sunflower fields and Ang Sap Lek.”

Weluwan Temple, commonly known as Wat Khao Chin Lae, is a forest meditation temple deeply surrounded by nature and tranquility. The word “Weluwan” means bamboo forest, reflecting the original landscape of the area, which was once densely covered with bamboo groves. The temple was founded by wandering forest monks who recognized that the geography of Chin Lae Valley, enclosed by mountains on all four sides, was highly suitable for meditation practice, offering solitude, peace, and spiritual seclusion.

The most important highlight of Weluwan Temple is Phra Phuttha Thammarangsi Muninat Satsada, also known as Luang Pho Khao, a large white Buddha image majestically enshrined on the mountaintop. This sacred statue was graciously commissioned by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great (Rama IX) to serve as a spiritual center and a symbol of peace. Visitors can climb the staircase leading to the summit while enjoying fresh air and the surrounding natural scenery.

At the top of the mountain, visitors are rewarded with a panoramic viewpoint offering expansive views of the surrounding landscape. During the winter season, the viewpoint provides a clear sight of blooming sunflower fields as well as Sap Lek Reservoir below. The harmonious combination of mountains, farmlands, and water creates a breathtaking scene and makes this spot one of Lopburi’s most popular photography locations.

Another distinctive feature of Weluwan Temple is the presence of large flocks of wild peacocks living naturally on the mountain. These peacocks often descend to the lower temple grounds, gracefully displaying themselves to visitors at close range. In addition, the temple features the impressive “Hanuman’s Mouth” entrance gate, which serves as a symbolic gateway welcoming travelers to Lopburi. The temple’s architecture is simple, natural, and perfectly aligned with the principles of forest meditation practice.

For merit-makers, meditation practitioners, and nature lovers, Weluwan Temple is an ideal destination. Visitors can make merit, practice mindfulness, challenge themselves with the mountain climb, and at the same time experience the rich ecosystem that the temple and local community have carefully preserved. It is a place that truly rejuvenates both body and mind.
