“Discover the wonders of the Phu Hang Nak Stone Garden and Kok Chang Din, a Dvaravati-era archaeological site, while enjoying the lush nature along the nature study trails.”

Phu Muang Forest Park is a protected natural area of great ecological and archaeological significance, located within the Khao Tako Pit Thong and Khao Phet Noi National Reserved Forests. Covering an area of approximately 1,725 rai, the forest consists mainly of mixed deciduous woodland interspersed with bamboo groves, maintaining a lush and tranquil environment. This area can be regarded as a vast natural classroom, bringing together geology, nature, and ancient history in one place, making it an ideal destination for eco-tourism and educational travel.

One of the main highlights of the forest park is Phu Muang Waterfall, a small waterfall with notable historical and literary importance, as it is mentioned in the classic Thai epic Khun Chang Khun Phaen. The waterfall is most beautiful during the rainy season, when clear streams flow over rocks amid the dense green forest, creating a refreshing and peaceful atmosphere ideal for relaxation and nature appreciation.

Another remarkable attraction is the Phu Hang Nak Natural Rock Garden, a collection of sandstone formations shaped by natural erosion over millions of years. These rocks resemble various imaginative forms, such as naga-shaped impressions and a mythical hidden city gate. Stretching along the mountain ridge, the rock garden also serves as a scenic viewpoint offering panoramic views of U Thong town and the surrounding landscape.

In terms of archaeology, Phu Muang Forest Park is home to the ancient “Earthen Elephant Corral,” a Dvaravati-period archaeological site dating back more than 1,500 years. It is believed to have been used for ritual ceremonies and the capture of wild elephants for royal purposes. The remaining earthen embankments and archaeological traces provide clear evidence of the prosperity of the ancient U Thong civilization. Visitors can explore these historical remains while enjoying the fresh air and serene forest surroundings.

For hiking enthusiasts and nature photographers, the forest park offers several nature study trails ranging from short walks to more challenging climbs leading to the rock garden. Along the trails, visitors may encounter rare plant species such as cliff jasmine, as well as endemic wildlife like the pink flat-backed millipede, which is known for its striking appearance and rarity. The quiet, untouched atmosphere and clean air allow visitors to truly escape the hustle and bustle of urban life and reconnect with nature.
