“Home to the unique "Golden-faced Thao Wessuwan," the first of its kind in Thailand, and the famous "Palm Anointing Ritual" led by Phra Khru Ba Wachiril, along with precious artifacts from the King Rama V era.”

Doem Bang Temple, formerly known as Wat Kongkharam, is an ancient community temple with a long and meaningful history. It was established around 1882 and is located on the eastern bank of the Tha Chin River in Doem Bang Nang Buat District, Suphan Buri Province. The temple holds great historical significance, as in 1908 King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) traveled along the Makham Thao Canal and stayed overnight at this temple. During his visit, he graciously bestowed several valuable royal items as commemorative gifts, making Wat Doem Bang a sacred place rich in artistic heritage and historical memory.

The most prominent landmark and main center of faith today is the Golden-Faced Thao Wessuwan, a massive statue standing over 9 meters tall. This statue is regarded as the first in Thailand to feature a radiant golden face. It is widely believed to grant blessings related to wealth, prosperity, financial success, and personal charm. As a result, devotees from across the country visit the temple to pray for success in business, career advancement, and overall prosperity.

Another well-known spiritual practice at Doem Bang Temple is the Palm Inscription Ritual for Prosperity, conducted by Phra Khru Wachiril, the current abbot. He is a direct disciple in the lineage of Luang Pho Kuay of Wat Khositaram, a highly respected monk. This ritual is especially popular among those seeking financial stability and progress in life, filling the temple with an atmosphere of strong faith and hopeful devotion.

For visitors interested in art and historical artifacts, Doem Bang Temple preserves many rare and valuable treasures. These include a finely carved jackfruit-wood pulpit, crafted by Chinese artisans in a Thai–Chinese artistic style in 1915, as well as royal gifts from King Rama V such as a mother-of-pearl alms bowl cover, ceremonial fans, and food containers. These objects reflect the deep connection between the monarchy and the riverside community.

Inside the ordination hall stands the principal Buddha image in the Pa Lelai posture, admired for its gentle and compassionate expression. The temple also features a mondop housing a replica of the Buddha’s footprint, where visitors may pay respect and seek blessings. The serene flow of the Tha Chin River combined with the temple’s refined architecture makes Wat Doem Bang not only a destination for spiritual wishes but also a peaceful place for reflection and learning about local history.

A visit to Wat Doem Bang offers a complete experience—spiritual fulfillment, cultural appreciation, and a deep sense of connection to Thailand’s living heritage along the tranquil banks of the Tha Chin River.
