“Pay respects to the legacy of Luang Pho Som Sucheewo, the late abbot famous for his compassion and traditional amulets, and experience the temple's peaceful, traditional atmosphere.”

Pho Thong Temple is located in Kham Yat Subdistrict, Pho Thong District, Ang Thong Province. It is a community temple of great historical, religious, and spiritual importance to the people of Ang Thong. The temple belongs to the Mahanikaya sect and has long served as a center of faith for local Buddhists, playing a vital role in religious ceremonies, education, and community activities from the past to the present.

The true significance of Pho Thong Temple does not lie in the grandeur of its buildings, but rather in the sacredness and deep devotion associated with Luang Pho Som Suchivo (Phra Khru Sophon Siritham), the former abbot who is widely revered by Buddhists throughout Thailand. He was a highly respected monk who played an important role in developing both the temple and the surrounding community, and he served as a spiritual anchor for people from many regions.

Luang Pho Som was a renowned monk who inherited sacred knowledge from the lineage of Luang Pu Suk of Wat Pak Khlong Makham Thao, a lineage highly respected within Thai Buddhist and amulet traditions. Beyond his spiritual expertise, he was also a monk devoted to community development and a practitioner of traditional Thai medicine. He compassionately used his knowledge to help heal illnesses and relieve suffering among villagers, reflecting the close bond between the monkhood and the everyday lives of the people.

One of Luang Pho Som’s most famous sacred objects is the “traditional sacred powder amulet,” created using meticulous ancient methods passed down through generations. These amulets are believed to embody strong spiritual power and sincere intention, making them highly sought after by collectors and devotees across the country. Although Luang Pho Som passed away in 2014, the spiritual influence and devotion associated with him continue to permeate Pho Thong Temple to this day.

The atmosphere within Pho Thong Temple is peaceful, shaded, and reflective of a traditional provincial temple that truly remains at the heart of its community. Visitors can pay respects to the statue of Luang Pho Som, honoring his virtues and seeking blessings for good fortune. Nearby, there is also the historically significant Kham Yat Royal Residence, located just a few kilometers away, allowing visitors to combine a spiritual journey with an exploration of local history when visiting Pho Thong Temple.
