“Trace the steps of history following the famous poem "Kap Hor Klong Praphat Than Thong Daeng" and visit the royal residence ruins situated along a legendary stream significant since the Ayutthaya era.”

Kasem Royal Pavilion is a historically significant ancient site located in Phra Phutthabat District, Saraburi Province. It was constructed as a royal resting residence for Thai kings during the Ayutthaya period and continued to be used in the early Rattanakosin era when monarchs traveled to pay homage to the Buddha’s Footprint. The pavilion played an important role as a royal travel residence that reflected the connection between royal authority, Buddhist devotion, and the natural landscape.

The pavilion is situated beside a stream known as Than Thong Daeng, which in the past was a clear, cool-flowing natural waterway surrounded by dense forest and diverse vegetation. The beauty of this area inspired the renowned literary work Kap Hor Khlong Prapas Than Thong Daeng, composed by Prince Thammathibet (Chao Fa Kung), vividly describing the natural scenery and the atmosphere of royal excursions in ancient times.

Visible remains today include the brick foundations and walls of the royal pavilion. Although most of the original structures have deteriorated over time, the surviving architectural elements still reflect the refinement of traditional design and an emphasis on harmony with the natural environment. Walking through the site feels like a journey back to an era when kings traveled and resided amid serene and lush surroundings.

The present-day atmosphere around Than Kasem Royal Pavilion remains peaceful, shaded, and tranquil, with large trees providing natural cover throughout the historic grounds. This calm environment allows visitors to relax while learning about Thai history. The site is carefully preserved by the Fine Arts Department, ensuring its continued value as a national cultural heritage site.

For historians and cultural enthusiasts, the pavilion serves as an important living reference for studying the design and layout of royal travel residences in the past. Photographers, meanwhile, will appreciate the aged brick textures and the soft sunlight filtering through the tree canopy, creating a timeless and evocative setting ideal for architectural and historical photography.

Than Kasem Royal Pavilion invites visitors to immerse themselves in stories of the past and to gain a deeper understanding of the enduring relationship between the Thai monarchy, Buddhist faith, and nature—an essential foundation of Thai society that continues to the present day.
