“Admire the intricate craftsmanship of "Bang Chao Cha Baskets" and modern bamboo handicrafts, and learn about a community supported by the royal initiatives of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.”

Wickerwork Village is an ancient community with a history dating back to the Ayutthaya period. Located in an area rich in golden bamboo, this natural resource has long played a vital role in the daily lives of local residents. Originally, bamboo weaving was practiced to produce household items such as baskets, containers, and agricultural tools, before gradually evolving into a primary occupation that brought recognition to the community.

The uniqueness of Ban Chao Cha lies in its transformation of traditional bamboo weaving into contemporary products of international quality. Villagers continuously improved patterns, designs, and forms to meet modern market demands, earning recognition as OTOP 5-Star products. Today, the products go beyond traditional baskets to include fashionable handbags, home décor items, and souvenirs exported worldwide, generating income and pride for the local community.

The village has also been developed as an eco-cultural tourism destination, allowing visitors to experience authentic rural lifestyles. Within the village, the Bamboo Utensil Museum located at Wat Yang Thong displays traditional animal traps, containers, and household tools, reflecting the wisdom and creativity passed down through generations.

A significant moment of pride for the community occurred when Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously visited the village and advised residents to cultivate golden bamboo to preserve both raw materials and the bamboo weaving profession. Her guidance became an important foundation for sustainable community development alongside natural resource conservation.

The village atmosphere is lush, simple, and peacefully rural. Visitors can ride local farm vehicles around the community, visit agricultural gardens, explore orchards of large golden-leaf santol trees, and check in at the “Twin Yang Na Trees,” over 400 years old and ranked among the three largest in Thailand. The friendliness of the villagers enhances the experience, as visitors are warmly welcomed to observe and converse with artisans weaving bamboo beneath traditional wooden houses.

For those interested in design, handicrafts, or collecting artisan works, products from Ban Chao Cha symbolize meticulous craftsmanship, durability, and artistic complexity. The intricate weaving patterns reflect exceptional skill, while photographers can capture scenes of artisans weaving attentively amid traditional Thai wooden homes, illustrating the harmonious coexistence of cultural heritage and community economy.

Visiting Wickerwork Village is therefore more than just shopping for souvenirs; it is an opportunity to learn, support, and sustain local wisdom. The village stands as clear evidence that traditional craftsmanship can grow, adapt, and thrive gracefully on a global stage while preserving the cultural roots of Ang Thong Province.
