“Experience the wonder of Sam Lan Waterfall, known for its three distinct stone tiers. Relax by the Khao Ruak Reservoir, and explore nature trails that lead to historical sites like Japanese WWII tunnels and military bases.”

Namtok Sam Lan National Park, formerly known as Phra Phutthachai National Park, is an important and highly popular natural attraction located very close to Bangkok, making it one of the most easily accessible national parks in Thailand. Most of the park area consists of limestone mountains, mixed deciduous forests, and dry evergreen forests that remain well preserved. The park serves as a vital watershed, with numerous streams flowing together to form waterfalls, creeks, and natural reservoirs.

The park’s most iconic attraction is Sam Lan Waterfall, a medium-sized waterfall distinguished by its unique formation. The water flows over a wide rocky terrace that descends in three natural tiers, resembling a three-step stone staircase, which gives the waterfall its name. The surrounding area is shaded by lush trees, making it an ideal spot for relaxation, swimming, and enjoying nature up close.

In addition to Sam Lan Waterfall, the park is home to several smaller waterfalls along its forest trails, such as Pho Hin Dat Waterfall, Ton Rak Waterfall, and Khao Daeng Waterfall. Each waterfall offers a different atmosphere, ranging from quiet and secluded settings to forested areas suitable for nature walks and ecological exploration.

Another popular recreational area within the park is Khao Ruak Reservoir, located near the park headquarters. This area is well suited for leisure activities such as kayaking and water cycling, as well as camping. Visitors can enjoy overnight stays under the stars in a peaceful and safe environment surrounded by nature.

Namtok Sam Lan National Park also holds significant historical value alongside its natural beauty. The park features historical nature trails where remnants from World War II can be found, including tunnels dug by Japanese soldiers, trenches, and bomb craters on Khao Daeng Hill. In addition, the remains of a Japanese military hospital building can still be seen, serving as evidence of the area’s role during the wartime period. These sites reflect a unique blend of history and nature within the park.

Due to its close proximity to Bangkok, Namtok Sam Lan National Park is a favored destination for visitors seeking a relaxing one-day trip or an overnight camping experience. The park offers a perfect balance of natural scenery, tranquility, and historical significance, making it an ideal getaway for travelers of all ages.
