Namtok Sam Lan National Park, formerly known as Phra Phutthachai National Park, is an important and highly popular natural attraction located very close to Bangkok, making it one of the most easily accessible national parks in Thailand. Most of the park area consists of limestone mountains, mixed deciduous forests, and dry evergreen forests that remain well preserved. The park serves as a vital watershed, with numerous streams flowing together to form waterfalls, creeks, and natural reservoirs.

The park’s most iconic attraction is Sam Lan Waterfall, a medium-sized waterfall distinguished by its unique formation. The water flows over a wide rocky terrace that descends in three natural tiers, resembling a three-step stone staircase, which gives the waterfall its name. The surrounding area is shaded by lush trees, making it an ideal spot for relaxation, swimming, and enjoying nature up close.

In addition to Sam Lan Waterfall, the park is home to several smaller waterfalls along its forest trails, such as Pho Hin Dat Waterfall, Ton Rak Waterfall, and Khao Daeng Waterfall. Private Car:

• From Saraburi town, head toward Bangkok on Phahonyothin Road for about 5 km. Look for the left turn toward Wat Phra Phutthachai and the park (Highway 3042).

Public Transport:

• Take a van or bus to Mueang Saraburi and hire a local taxi or motorcycle taxi to the park entrance.

Best Season:

• To see the waterfalls at their best, visit during the late rainy season to early winter (August – November).

Activities:

• Start early if you plan to visit all waterfalls. The trails are relatively easy but comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
