“Pong Sri Village is renowned for antique trading and traditional silverware, complemented by Wang Pla Pong Sri’s natural fish sanctuary, Wat Pong Sri with its giant silver bowl, and hands-on indigo tie-dye workshops.”
Pong Sri Village has long been recognized as a center for antiques and traditional silverware in Phrae. The reputation began decades ago when villagers developed a passion for collecting antique silverware, amulets, and old teak furniture, which gradually evolved into a primary occupation attracting collectors from across Thailand.
A key identity of the village is Pong Sri silverware, finely handcrafted with exceptional detail, especially traditional Thai Lue-style silver. Today, these designs are adapted into contemporary jewelry while preserving their classic heritage.
Another important attraction is Wang Pla Pong Sri, a riverside fish sanctuary along the Mae Sai stream. Shaded by large trees, it serves as a community relaxation area where visitors can feed fish, stroll along the water, or enjoy pedal boating.
On weekends, especially Saturday and Sunday mornings, the village becomes lively with an antique and amulet market, where items are displayed in front of homes and community stalls. This atmosphere reflects the simple yet culturally rich Thai Lue lifestyle, with local craftsmanship in woodwork, silverware, and traditional textiles passed down through generations.
