“An important historical and archaeological learning site in Nong Bua Lamphu Province, revealing continuous evidence from prehistoric, Dvaravati, and Lan Xang periods. Visitors can see the traces of ancient settlements and the evolution of early communities.”

Ban Kut Kwang Soi, also known as Non Don Klang, is located on the eastern slope of Phu Kao in Ban Thin Subdistrict, Non Sang District, Nong Bua Lamphu Province. This area was declared a national historical site after villagers discovered numerous human skeletons and pottery while working in the fields. The Fine Arts Department conducted systematic excavations starting in 1974.

Archaeological layers show multiple human civilizations over time. In particular, the prehistoric layers reveal evidence of daily life and cultural practices closely related to the Ban Chiang culture, indicating early agricultural settlements. Prominent artifacts include human skeletons buried lying on their backs with numerous ornaments and tools. Notably, red-on-buff pottery with geometric patterns, a hallmark of the Bronze Age culture in Northeast Thailand, was discovered.

Additional findings illustrate technological development, such as bronze ornaments, stone bracelets, beads, and sandstone molds for casting bronze axes, showing that local people produced metal tools themselves. Iron tools were found in deeper layers, marking the transition from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age. Shallow layers also revealed artifacts from the Dvaravati and Lan Xang periods, indicating continuous settlement in the area for thousands of years.

Today, Ban Kut Kwang Soi serves as a local museum displaying some of the excavated artifacts. It is a major learning center for students, researchers, and anyone interested in history, allowing visitors to experience and understand the roots of Isan civilization.
